Different Beauty, David Tesinsky

Bioskop Balkan (Braće Jugovića 16, Beograd)

In his long-standing search for human stories that often remain invisible, David Tesinsky builds a visual world in which beauty is not found in harmony, but in truth. Different Beauty presents a selection of his most intense photographic journeys: encounters with revolutionary youth in Iran, women on the front lines in Donbas, drag queens from the poor neighborhoods of Havana, LGBTQ+ activists in Minsk, and many others who live on the edge of society, history, or their own fate.

The exhibition brings together photographs created in more than 80 countries, connected by a single thread: the need to tell stories that resist stereotypes and to understand people whose identities are shaped in the conflict between their inner and outer realities. Tesinsky photographs individuals who fight for freedom and dignity. He is not an observer at a distance; his camera becomes a participant, accomplice, witness, and interlocutor. It is from this relationship that images emerge—humanistic in tone, often brutal, yet always carrying a trace of hope, defiance, or courage.

The title Different Beauty suggests a shift in perspective: recognizing beauty in struggle, bravery, madness, vulnerability, and resistance. Tesinsky insists on closeness, despite the fear and superficiality that have become the modus operandi of contemporary society. His portraits reveal lives that modern narratives often simplify or erase, and precisely for that reason, they represent a rare kind of beauty—one that changes the way we see others and ourselves.

Different Beauty is an invitation to empathy and courage.
